SRAM GXP Team Cups English 83 Bottom Bracket

• GXP technology for lightweight performance - SRAM's GXP (Giga X Pipe) system features a 24mm drive-side spindle stepping down to 22mm on the non-drive side, reducing weight while maintaining stiffness for efficient power transfer

• 83mm shell width for modern MTB frames - Specifically designed for wider mountain bike bottom bracket shells (83mm), accommodating modern boost and super boost frame standards common on trail, enduro, and downhill bikes

• Team-level sealed bearing construction - Premium sealed cartridge bearings with tighter tolerances provide exceptionally smooth rotation and superior protection against water, mud, and trail debris for extended service life

• English/BSA threaded compatibility - Standard threaded design (1.37" x 24 TPI) ensures secure installation and compatibility with modern mountain bike frames featuring threaded 83mm bottom bracket shells

• Precision-machined lightweight cups - High-quality construction minimizes weight without sacrificing the strength and durability needed to withstand high torque loads and the impacts of aggressive mountain biking

Description

This bottom bracket will keep pedals insulated and turning smoothly. SRAM uses gutter seal technology that vastly improves sealing against the elements while reducing seal drag. The GXP system uses two bicycle-specific cartridge bearings and eight seals for a smooth and long lasting ride.

FAQ

Q: What frames require an 83mm bottom bracket instead of the standard 68/73mm? A: The 83mm shell width is designed for modern mountain bikes with boost (148mm rear) or super boost (157mm rear) hub spacing. These wider frames require an 83mm bottom bracket shell to accommodate the increased chainline needed for proper drivetrain alignment. Measure your frame's bottom bracket shell width or check your manufacturer's specifications to confirm you need 83mm.

Q: Is this bottom bracket compatible with SRAM DUB cranksets? A: No, this is a GXP bottom bracket and only works with SRAM GXP cranksets (24mm drive-side, 22mm non-drive side spindle). It is not compatible with DUB cranksets which use a uniform 28.99mm spindle. Check your crankset specifications—if it's labeled GXP, this bottom bracket will work. If it's DUB, you need a DUB-specific bottom bracket.

Q: What makes the Team-level version different from standard GXP bottom brackets? A: Team-level bottom brackets feature higher-quality sealed bearings with tighter tolerances, superior sealing, and smoother rotation compared to standard versions. They're lighter, more durable, and provide better performance and longevity. The premium bearings are particularly beneficial for riders in harsh conditions or those who demand the best performance from their drivetrain.

Q: How do I install this bottom bracket and what tools do I need? A: You'll need a GXP-compatible bottom bracket tool (typically a 16-notch tool), a torque wrench, and waterproof grease. Apply grease to the shell threads and faces, thread in both cups (noting that one is reverse-threaded), and torque to 25-35 Nm (18-26 ft-lbs). Proper installation is critical to prevent creaking and ensure longevity—if you're unfamiliar with the process, professional installation is recommended.

Q: How long will this bottom bracket last before needing replacement? A: Service life varies based on riding conditions and maintenance. Under typical trail riding conditions, expect 3,000-8,000 miles. Aggressive riding in wet, muddy conditions may reduce life to 2,000-4,000 miles, while dry conditions with regular bike cleaning can exceed 8,000 miles. Replace when you notice creaking, rough rotation, lateral play, or resistance. Keeping your bike clean and avoiding high-pressure water near the bottom bracket will maximize lifespan.
