FAQ

Q: What does "EZ Fire Plus" mean? A: EZ Fire Plus is Shimano's integrated shift and brake lever system for flat bar bikes. It combines both shifting and braking controls in one ergonomic unit, allowing you to shift gears and brake without moving your hands from the levers.

Q: Will this work with my bike's brakes? A: These levers are designed specifically for V-brakes (linear pull brakes). They won't work properly with disc brakes, cantilever brakes, or caliper brakes. Make sure your bike has V-brakes before purchasing.

Q: What drivetrain setup does this fit? A: This set is configured for a 3x8 speed drivetrain - meaning a triple chainring (3 gears at the front) and an 8-speed cassette at the rear, giving you 24 total gears. It's perfect for mountain bikes and hybrids with this setup.

Q: What is the Optical Gear Display? A: The Optical Gear Display is a small window on the shifter that shows which gear you're currently in. This helps you know exactly where you are in your gear range without guessing, making shifting more precise and efficient.

Q: Does it come with cables? A: Yes! The ST-EF500 set comes complete with both gear cables and brake cables included, so you have everything you need for installation. You won't need to purchase cables separately.
